Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut extended her support to wrestler Vinesh Phogat after Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 finals for being overweight. This message of support came shortly after Kangana had criticized Phogat for raising slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government during the wrestlers' protest in India. Kangana took to her Instagram stories to share Phogat's first photo following her disqualification and captioned it with "Sherni..." Additionally, she posted an illustration of Mother India weeping and consoling Phogat, with the text on the image reading, "Mat ro Vinesh, aapke saath khada hai pura desh" ("Don't cry Vinesh, the whole nation stands with you"). After Phogat made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the Olympic final in wrestling, Kangana shared a picture of her on Instagram, accompanied by a veiled critique. She recalled Phogat’s participation in protests against the former President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan, and noted, "Vinesh Phogat at one point took part in protests where she raised the slogans of ‘Modi teri Kabr khudegi.’ Yet she was given the opportunity to represent the nation and receive the best training, coaches, and facilities. On Wednesday, the nation was left heartbroken after Phogat was disqualified from the Olympics just moments before her final match. She was found to be overweight by a mere 100 grams, which prevented her from competing in the final bout and dashed India's hopes for another Olympic medal.
